New Classes to Begin
In our next newsletter we will be announcing the schedule for this year’s education series. These classes have been a huge hit for the past couple of years. As a prelude to these classes we are running a series of articles by Niamh Whelan covering some of last years’ classes. Rabbi Misha and Father Bernie present the Jewish perspective and the Catholic perspective on various issues and topics during the education series. There is always a time to ask questions and discuss after our clergy's presentations in each session. In case you missed any of the classes or want to get an idea of what kind of topics we cover in the classes, the first of Niamh’s articles is below and a link to the second is on the right panel. We look forward to beginning the education series in October. |

On the Catholic side, Fr. Bernie explained that the Church does have strong opinions in the area of social justice and that these are driven by the hierarchical structure of the Church and the fact that there is a central figure – a CEO in many respects – in the form of the Pope. Rabbi Misha suggested that the more decentralized nature of Judaism means that there is no one voice on social issues within the Jewish religion. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t opinions on social justice but rather that there isn’t one central voice on the issues. [Click here to continue reading]

Enroll now for the 2008-2009 school year! The Family School is a community of Jewish and Catholic couples providing a religious school to convey to our children the stories, traditions, rituals and values of both Judaism and Catholic Christianity. Together, we explore with our children the common moral code and shared heritage of our two faiths.
The Family School was featured in a recent Chicago Tribune article that can be found here: Chicago Tribune
We are accepting applications for enrollment now for the Fall of 2008! Kindergartners must be five years old before December 31 of the current school year to be admitted. We teach classes beginning at the Kindergarten level through 8th grade. There are openings for children in all grade levels.
